Effective isolation isn’t about casually assigning a different email to every platform. It starts by asking whether a notification will still matter in three hours, three months, or three years.

Most inboxes don’t become unmanageable overnight. It usually starts with signing up for one social platform: the verification code is useful, the welcome email is tolerable, and then recommendations, livestreams, unfamiliar interactions, and promotional campaigns all start landing in the same everyday inbox. By the time you try to clean it up, account recovery emails, login alerts, and marketing messages are tangled together—and simply unsubscribing could cut off genuinely important security notifications.

Why tier by notification lifespan

Start with a notification audit

Don’t rush to create dozens of aliases. First, review the past three months of email and search for the platforms you use most.
